Week 50: The Blessings of the Priesthood

January 8, 2018

Hey hey hey!!

At Higley Hot Dog
Yet another great week in the AGM has flown by. It has been soooo busy. The longer I'm on my mission the busier I get and the faster the time goes. I wish it would slow down!

Unfortunately I am still feeling pretty under the weather. Most of my symptoms are gone, but I still have this really nasty dry cough. Today is day 7 of coughing and I am beginning to lose faith that I will ever get over this cough haha.

This week we had MLC. I love MLC so much; it's seriously one of my favorite meetings of the month. This month was a special MLC with all the district leaders. There was definitely a special spirit in the room having the core leadership of our mission gathered together. I've learned recently that there is power in council and that we are able to receive revelation as we gather together and discuss the needs of those around us in love. It was an awesome MLC! My cough kinda came to a head at MLC...all day long I was coughing like crazy and a couple times I started coughing and literally could not stop. Sister Small and I had to run out of the room two separate times so I could cough without disrupting the entire meeting. It was so scary...I was coughing for a good two minutes no break, and I couldn't stop coughing to tell Sister Small that the reason why I wasn't stopping coughing was because I couldn't haha. When we came back in the second time we decided to just sit in the back row in case we had to run out again. After a few minutes of being back in the room, one of my zone leaders turned around and saw me and mouthed "You need a blessing." and I agreed with him. At that point I hadn't asked for a Priesthood blessing, because I hadn't felt like my illness was serious enough to warrant a blessing. But when this happened I knew it was time to get one. So after MLC, Sister Small, our zone leaders, and the two district leaders in our zone gathered together and I got a blessing. I didn't experience any miraculous healing or anything like that...I mean, obviously I'm still sick, but it was one of the coolest experiences of my mission. This transfer our zone has really struggled and every ZLC the six of us gather together and plead with the Lord for guidance on how to help the missionaries we serve with. We have definitely shed some tears as we've tried to solve problems together and as a result have become pretty close...so it was pretty neat to have all four of those Elders place their hands on my head and receive a blessing from them. I'm so grateful for the restoration of the Priesthood and for worthy men who can hold the Priesthood and bless us all here on Earth!

Exchanges with Sis. Roberts
This week we went on two exchanges! The first was with Sister Roberts, a sister who has been out for 6 months. We were in her area and we had an awesome day! We saw tons of success together and we were able to set up five return appointments. She's a great sister...super quiet so I definitely felt like the energizer bunny haha but she's super solid.

The second was with Sister Sattler, who's been out for a little over three months. Our day was a little rough, we knocked lots of doors and talked to lots of angry people, but we still had fun! We were able to have dinner with a single mom and her family and help brighten their day a little bit.

Exchanges with Sis. Sattler
We saw a MASSIVE miracle this week. During weekly planning we got a call from a YSA member and he said "Sisters, A has questions about the temple and wants to meet tonight. Can we meet at 6??" We were floored. A is a former investigator who stopped investigating about four years ago due to an unsupportive family. While she was investigating she was beyond golden. She was on date three separate times and has a Book of Mormon more marked up than mine. She even went so far as to make a scrapbook of her spiritual experiences. So needless to say, we were pumped to have a lesson with her haha. It was super cool! We had two members there, both who were present at all of the lessons she had with the missionaries four years ago. We were able to answer some of her questions, and we talked with her about how she can increase her relationship with God. The Spirit was so strong, and her friends testified of how the happiness that she once felt as she was investigating can be hers forever this time if she chooses. We think that she's scared to move forward because the last time she tried to get baptized she wasn't able to, and you could tell that it really hurt her. But at the end she was like "I'm looking forward to having more of my questions answered by you guys and seeing you soon!" And then we became friends on facebook. Definitely praying for her!

We finally were able to get in contact with one of our un-contacted referrals this week. It was a miracle. We felt prompted to stop by this one potential, and as we were biking there we saw some people outside his neighbor's house. We biked up to them and started talking to them. It turns out his brother is a member and he's interested in learning more! They were washing their car so it was a bad time, but he told us to come back later this week.

We had a lesson with T yesterday. She is so solid. She knows all of the commandments inside and out, upside and down and is so ready for her baptism next week. We nailed down some details and set up a time for her interview and are just so excited for her. She has invited tons of people to her baptism and we are excited for them to feel the Spirit that is present at baptisms!

With our mini
We had a mini missionary this weekend; her name was Sister D and she was baptized in September and wants to serve a mission. We had an awesome time with her! Having a mini is always an interesting experience, you never know what's going to happen...but she was so solid! She's going to make an awesome missionary, and her testimony is going to bless lots of people when she gets to the mission field. Our weekend was crazy busy due to exchanges and having a mini and stake conference, but Sister D totally caught the vision of missionary work. At the testimony meeting last night she bore her testimony of the fact that this work is directed by the Lord. It's so cool how after even just 48 hours of being a "missionary" she was able to increase her own testimony and solidify her desire to serve.

I love this work! Sister Small and I feel so blessed to be able to serve together in this area and witness so many miracles. Each of my weekly emails is just a few highlights from the many, many miracles we see every week. Thank you for all of the love and support and prayers.

I love you all!
